NISHKAM

Bhai Ghanaiya Ji is the true model of Team Nishkam. The founders of Nishkam, its team members, volunteers, and staff function as caretakers of public money and Daswandh of the Sangat.
With constant guidance and support, the Nishkam team comprises young and old medical doctors, educationists, chartered accountants, technocrats, IT professionals, serving and retired bureaucrats, self-employed professionals, and businessmen. The team is determined to continue its pursuit of selfless Sewa by continuing existing projects and embarking on new ones.

The policy of the Council

The November 1984 happenings in the country accelerated the setting up of Nishkam. The emphasis of the Council has always been on making the people self-supporting by providing vocational, medical, and educational assistance. Initially, due to limited resources, the assistance was mainly provided to the affected families.

However, with time, the resources were built and now the assistance is being provided without any distinctions as per teachings of “Sri Guru Granth Sahib”.

Activities of the Council

After setting up, with aid from “Indian Express Relief Fund” and “Ajit Relief Fund” and philanthropic individuals/Trusts, Nishkam provided vocational assistance to about 300 families of Sultanpuri, Mangolpuri, Uttam Nagar, honor, and other areas of Delhi.
From November 1984 to the end of February 1985, Nishkam managed to reconstruct houses in Sultanpuri and Mangolpuri to make them livable for their occupants.
In March 1985, the Government started allotting small flats to widow sisters of different areas of Delhi. The policy of allotment was that the old houses of the widow sisters will be taken over by the Government and disposed off and the amount recovered will be adjusted against the cost of new flats allotted to them. Nishkam immediately shifted its focus on Tilak Vihar and is still present there even after the passage of 35 years.

Over time, the following new projects have been taken up:

The affairs of the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council are administered by the Managing Committee through a governing body, elected for a period of 3 years. The Managing committee constitutes founder members, office bearers and co-opted members.

The day-to-day activities are conducted by the members, all volunteers, also known as the Nishkam Sewadars. The Nishkam Sewadars comprise of medical doctors, educationists, IT professionals, chartered accountants, self-employed professionals-businessmen and even serving/retired bureaucrats.

The staff hired by Nishkam like the manager, executives, accountants, receptionists and support staff are paid by the council.

Administration and Financial System of the Council

Financial Information

The Council endeavors to have an effectual financial system in order to make sure that the money contributed by the donors is fully utilized for the purpose it has been allotted for. With this end in view, the Council maintains regular & transparent financial accounts, which are audited by the Chartered Accountant. The council is very particular in compliance of various statutory requirements.
