Disaster Relief & Care

While continuing its regular activities and programs, since the 1988 floods in Punjab, when it teamed up with Guru Nanak Dev University and Chief Khalsa Dewan to provide relief, Nishkam has always responded whenever man-made disasters and natural calamities have struck various parts of India. Be it the floods of Kosi in Bihar , the havoc caused by the Gujarat earthquake in Bhuj in 2001, the earthquake in Uttarkashi, the ravages by Tsunami in Tamil Nadu, the damage by floods in Punjab and the devastation by the earthquake in Kashmir in 2005, Nishkam volunteers were there to provide relief and succor.

For building 47 houses for Tsunami-hit fishing families in Cuddalore, Tamil Nadu, Rs. 28 lakhs was raised and spent by Nishkam, in association with other aid bodies, under the aegis of Guru Nanak Sarbat Sikh Sangat.
