SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

SHDF SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PROFESSIONAL COLLEGE STUDENTS - 2008

On behalf of the Sikh Human Development Foundation, Inc. U.S.A (SHDF), the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council (Regd.), invites applications for scholarships (up to Rs. 20000/- per year) from students pursuing professional degree & diploma courses (like Engg., IT, Medical, Nursing, Home Science, Architecture, Agriculture, Business Management, B.Ed., Journalism, CA etc.) in recognized colleges and universities. Students appearing for XII class exam. can also apply but the scholarship will be granted on admission to professional courses.

Eligibility: Minimum 60% marks and average family income not exceeding Rs. 12500/- per month. Victims of social upheavals (like 1984 riots) and natural calamities will get preference.

Duly filled application forms, together with documentary evidence of family income, tuition fees and other refundable and non-refundable charges must reach Nishkam’s office by 30th April, 2008. Eligible candidates will be required to take a written test in Punjabi & Religion/ Moral Science, to be held at New Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Faridkot & Amritsar on 8th June, 2008 and date and venue of interview will be notified later.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR SHDF SCHOLARSHIPS - 2008

Eligibility Requirements:
  • These scholarships are available only for pursuing professional degree or postgraduate courses in a recognized institution/University. The term professional course includes, but is not limited to, engineering, architecture, information technology, computer science, medical, nursing, pharmacology, home science, Education, business management, agriculture, animal husbandry and the like.   • The applicant must have obtained at least sixty percent marks in the previous year’s examination.
  • The gross family income of the applicant must not exceed an average of Rs.12500/- per month.

  • How to Apply?

    This is a five step process.
    First obtain the prescribed Application Form, which is available (free of cost) from Nishkam by mail or via e-mail.     Second itemized annual cost of studies, including tuition cost and compulsory institutional charges. This would include (a) certification from the college/university about (a) candidate’s moral character and conduct; (b) itemized cost of studies like tuition fees, refundable charges, non-refundable charges etc.; (c) marks obtained in most recent examinations and position in the class; d) gross family income in the institution’s records; (e)(i) last year’s attendance record; (ii) proof of family income, like income tax return, employer’s certificate, certificate from revenue official for farmers stating acreage owned/leased; and (iii) copies of receipts for the fees and other charges paid.

    Third fill up the application, fully and completely, and send it, together with attested photocopies of all certificates and receipt of fees paid, so as to reach Nishkam office in New Delhi (by mail or delivered personally) before April 30, 2008.

    Fourth appear, at your own expense, in a written Punjabi and Moral Science test to be conducted by Nishkam (time and place will be notified separately) at one of the designated centers (Amritsar, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Chandigarh and New Delhi) on Sunday, June 8, 2008. Fifth and, appear for interview, at your own expense, date and venue to be notified by Nishkam later. Last Date for Filing Applications is April 30, 2008. NOTE: Applications are liable to be summarily rejected if they are incomplete, have vague or imprecise answers, and/or lack full documentation. Disbursement of Scholarships: Nishkam would disburse the approved scholarship amount, in one or more installment as appropriate, by a bank demand draft, directly to the student’s home address. Follow Up on the Progress of the Recipient Student by Nishkam: The scholarship recipient would be required to submit copies of his/her semester marks sheet and any other progress reports to Nishkam from time to time.
