On behalf of the Sikh Human Development Foundation, Inc. U.S.A (SHDF), the Nishkam Sikh Welfare Council (Regd.), New Delhi invites Applications for Scholarships from students in recognized Colleges and Universities pursuing professional degree & diploma courses, like Engineering, IT, Medical, Nursing, Home Science, Architecture, Agriculture, Business Management, B.Ed., Journalism, CA etc.

Eligibility:(i) Minimum 60% marks in the previous examination; and (ii) average family income not exceeding Rs. 12,500/- per month (Rs. 1,50,000 per year).

Application form and detailed instructions are available on Nishkam website www.nishkam.org. Duly filled in application forms, together with documentary evidence of family income, tuition fees and other refundable and non-refundable charges must reach Nishkam’s office by 30th April, 2008 at Nishkam Bhawan, B-Block, Tilak Vihar, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi – 110018; Ph. No. 2833-3377/4477/5577/6677. Eligible candidates will be required to take a written test in Punjabi & Religion/ Moral Science, to be held simultaneously at New Delhi, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Faridkot and Amritsar on Sunday, June 14, 2009. The date and venue of interview will be notified later.

Note: Students appearing in XII class examination can also apply and take the written test and interview, but the scholarship will be granted, if found eligible, only upon admission to a professional course.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR SHDF SCHOLARSHIPS - 2009

Eligibility Requirements:


  • These scholarships are available only for pursuing professional diploma, degree or postgraduate courses in a recognized institution/University. The term professional course includes, but is not limited to, engineering, architecture, information technology, computer science, medical, nursing, pharmacology, home science, education, business management, agriculture, animal husbandry and the like.   • The applicant must have obtained at least sixty percent marks in the previous year’s examination.


  • The gross family income of the applicant must not exceed an average of Rs.12500/- per month (i.e.Rs. 1,50,000 per year).


  • The applicant must maintain an active e-mail account for correspondence with Nishkam and SHDF.

    How to Apply?

    This is a five step process.

    First

    Obtain the prescribed Application Form, which is available at Nishkam’s website www.nishkam.org. For more details, contact 2833-3377/4477/5577/6677 (Scholarship Division). Nishkam’s e-mail address is nishkam_sewa@bol.net.in and nishkamsewa1984@gmail.com

    Second

    Obtain/assemble necessary documentation to be submitted with the application. This would include (a) certification from the college/university in the prescribed form about (a) candidate’s moral character and conduct; (b) itemized cost of studies like tuition fees, refundable charges, non-refundable charges etc.; (c) marks obtained in at least two most recent examinations and position obtained in each class; (d) gross family income in the institution’s records; (e) last year’s attendance record. In addition, obtain documentation for (i) proof of family income, like income tax return, employer’s certificate, certificate from revenue official for farmers stating acreage owned/leased, whether irrigated or unirrigated and income therefrom; (ii) copies of receipts for the fees and other charges paid to the institution; (iii) copies of all academic and other certificates; and (iv) a short write up in response to question number 12 (justification for grant of scholarship) in the application form.

    Third

    Fill up the application, fully and completely, and send it, together with attested photocopies of all certificates and receipt of fees paid, so as to reach Nishkam office in New Delhi (by mail or delivered personally) before April 30, 2009.     Fourth

    Appear, at your own expense, in a written Punjabi and Moral Science test to be conducted by Nishkam (time and place will be notified separately) at one of the designated centers (Amritsar, Ludhiana, Faridkot, Chandigarh and New Delhi) on Sunday, June 14, 2009.

    Fifth

    And, appear for interview, at your own expense, date and venue to be notified by Nishkam later.

    Last Date for Receipt of Applications is April 30, 2009.

    NOTE: Applications are liable to be summarily rejected if they are incomplete, have vague or imprecise answers, and/or lack full documentation or lack an e-mail address.

    Disbursement of Scholarships: Nishkam would disburse the approved scholarship amount, in one or more installment as appropriate, by a bank demand draft, directly to the student’s home address.

    Syllabus for Written Test

    The test consists of following two papers:

    Paper I: Elementary Test in Punjabi Language will contain questions from grammar, sentence making etc. No book is prescribed. The students will have to prepare by self-study.
    Paper II: Religious & Moral Studies will be set out of two books namely:-
    (i) Naitik Sikhya by Guru Gobind Singh Study Circle
    (ii) Japuji Sahib – Swal Jawab by Sukrit

    Note: Minimum 50% marks are required to be scored in each of the above two papers to become eligible for the interview.
